Apple now provides a much better Spotlight interface, especially if you search from a Finder window. This part and, really, the rest of the book are iOS specific. Matt Neuburg has a PhD in Classics and has taught at many universities and colleges. All in all, I think this is a great book. The downloaded code is indexed by page number – maty the print edition.
Many discussions have been expanded or improved. This book covers iOS 5 and Xcode 4. I could summarize the differences iks part I of the first and second editions in a few lines; Objective C itself didn’t really change, so neither did the book.
I would have liked to see more about Networking and how people should implement common patterns there – since most apps need to do this anyway. You can order it through amazon.
It makes it so much easier to browse code and also ensures that any minor typos get fixed quickly. The book is completely revised; this is the best edition ever: A few years ago, my old riding buddy John decided that mqtt street was no fun any more. It takes about 30 seconds to play. My biggest complaint, though, is that the organization of the book makes it very hard to follow along. The author has a tendency towards unnoted forward-references in this ils, though — he’ll say “delete the setNumber: It is a scholarly work.

A “get started quick” book would probably have presented the Table View towards the beginning, but this book takes the time to lay the groundwork for really understanding it before showing it to you.

This is about two-thirds of the book, and gets into some very specific detail. The newest version has broken into two separate books.
If you’re an experienced programmer, you can probably figure it out, but it might be hard going with a lot of turning back a few pages to re-absorb something. Get a solid grounding in the fundamentals of Cocoa Touch, and avoid problems during iPhone and iPad app development. A whole chapter goes through this systematically.
